I hope everyone has a lovely Thanksgiving week! My son is off most of the week, and we will be spending the day with my parents. I don't plan on hitting any stores on Black Friday - most of my gifts are made by me - but if you are, have fun and don't get trampled! :)
Hopefully in a couple of months things will be a bit better, and I can post again on a regular basis.

Until then, I decided to have a giveaway from my shops to kick off the holiday season. I will pick a name randomly on the evening of Sunday, November 18th. I will be giving away a $20.00 gift certificate to use in either RedBessBonney, RedBessBonneyToo, or scooterbank.

For those of you not familiar with my shops, RedBessBonney has chainmaille, jewelry, and scarves. This is one of my newest items - chainmaille bottle jewelry.

My second shop is RedBessBonneyToo. Original, huh? :) In this shop
you'll find destash, vintage, and altered vintage. Here's one of the
items from that shop - a Victorian hidden name calling card.

Scooterbank is not really one of my shops - it's actually a shop for my
son's art and photography. I may be kind of prejudiced, but I think he
has a pretty good eye for his age! Here's one of his items:

Okay, rules for entering. It's easy - just enter a comment here with your favorite item from any shop.
For extra entries, like my page on Facebook or follow me on Twitter. The problem is that she lives in California; I'm in Missouri.

But after the year I had last year - with moving, and my husband's aortic dissection, etc., we decided I needed a getaway. My husband and son were very good to me - I didn't get just the weekend, but 10 whole days! :)

I arrived in San Diego, as the party was in Solana Beach. I was looking forward to sunny skies and a walk on the beach, however I forgot how fickle beach weather can be.. This is what it was like all weekend:

We had a blast anyway, and even though I didn't get much jewelry made, it was very nice to reconnect with my friends!

And might I recommend staying at Holiday Inn Express, for the sole reason of the incredible pancake machine! We all wanted one of these for our homes..

Once back from the weekend, I actually got to see a movie that wasn't
rated G! :) And a trip to California wouldn't be complete without a
trip to In-N-Out..

I had a couple of relaxing days, then it was off to Hollywood to see John Cusack on the Jimmy Kimmel Show! Hollywood is just so... interesting. I miss it!

A couple of days later I headed to California Adventure ever so briefly.. I got a nice tease for our next visit later this summer.

That evening I went with a friend to the Pechanga Casino in Temecula to see our pals the 80z All Stars. I've mentioned them before on my blog - they are some of the nicest guys you'll ever meet! We had so much fun!

After a late night, the next day we had lots planned - we were going to visit famous dead people at Hollywood Forever Cemetery before heading over to a D23 event at the Walt Disney Studios.

My friend wanted to go to the Federal Bar in North Hollywood for dinner.. Cool place and good food.. I had the Greco burger - lamb with feta and tzatiki, and the garlic parmesan fries were so incredibly yummy!!
The D23 Fanniversary event was great! I was a tad disappointed that this event didn't leave time for exploring a bit and shopping like some of their other events, but they did have 2 events that night, plus it was dark. I managed a few pictures..

It was a very fun trip! Maybe I'll get to take another one without my husband and son again some time.. Until then, I have my memories!

I should add that I really do enjoy going on trips with my boys, and we are planning a big one later this summer, so you have that blog post to look forward to.. lol! At the rate I'm going, it will probably post in November... ;)
RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867364857040507042.post-67088507019824623372012-07-07T06:16:00.001-07:002012-07-07T06:16:40.918-07:00No Big Deal or Creepy?I've recently been going through an interesting situation. About a month ago, someone from my past contacted me through my Etsy shop.

At first, I replied back with a "hi, how are you, and btw however did you find me here?"

After I hit send, I got a bad feeling. I started wondering why an acquaintance from 20+ years ago would have my maiden name and associate it with my shop.

Here's the background info:
A long time ago, 1989 to be exact, I was on my first job out of college. I was new, as was someone else in the office. Naturally we struck up a friendship. She was married at the time to the guy who contacted me. We hung out occasionally, even after I moved to another city. Right before I moved out of state, the woman told me she was divorcing her husband, and that was the last contact I had with either of them.

Until last month.

He contacted me with my maiden name. He said he wanted me to call or e-mail him so I could tell him what I'm doing now.

Um... I think that's clear that if you find my shop, you'll find this blog and you can see what I'm up to. But that's just how I think, I guess.

I decided to ignore his convo, thinking he would get the hint. He never replied how he found me, btw. But every week I would get another convo saying "are you ok?" or "has anything happened to you?" One line convos - every week. Very creepy. Still no reply on how he found me.

I took to the Etsy forums with the question of how to handle this, and the consensus was that before I reported him to Etsy, I had to reply asking him to cease communications. Next time he sent me a convo, I did reply.

I told him he was making me very uncomfortable and to please cease communications. I then reported him to Etsy.

He replied back - he stated how he found me. He also came up with some story about how I was supposed to introduce him to my parents at dinner one night, and he waited 2 hours in the snow. WTF? Wishful thinking on his part? Mistaken identity? That really creeped me out..

He did say he would quit contacting me however, BUT

Etsy contacted him. Told him to leave me alone.

I got another convo. It came across as very angry, and this time he told a DIFFERENT story of how he found me. He didn't understand how I wasn't welcoming his overtures. He also claimed he was shutting down his account, but it's still there. I will be reporting his latest convo - even though he told me not to - so his account should be shut down.

Now you know the story. Isn't it weird? I had people on the forums saying it was no big deal or whatever, but it wasn't really a friend getting back in touch after many years. He also mentioned he'd been looking for me for years.

So bizarre - I had even forgotten his existence! I guess I'm a memorable person.. lol.. except it's not a laughing matter. I consider it stalking, and it's not a good feeling. My husband thinks the situation is strange, and I have a son to protect as well.

It has left me with a general feeling of ick. I'm taking some time off from my shop, and will be spending time with family and friends for a couple of weeks til I can shake this feeling. My shop will remain open, but I will just glance at it once a day and I will not ship anything til later this month. Thanks for your understanding.. :)RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867364857040507042.post-74373881617868454422012-06-21T14:17:00.000-07:002012-06-25T05:46:43.665-07:00Maker Faire KC!!!This weekend is Maker Faire KC!

I'm so excited - I can't wait! I wasn't able to go last year, as we were busy unpacking. Yes, it's been a year since we left California..

This year I'll be attending Maker Faire - I'll be doing chainmaille demos all weekend, as well as selling some finished pieces. My demo hours for Saturday are 9:30-10:30, 11-noon, 1-2, 2:30-3:30, 4-5, and 6-7. The hours are the same on Sunday, except for the 6-7 time slot. I will have some extra rings and pliers available if you want to give it a try!

If you're in the area, please stop by! The weekend should be a blast - check out their website here

Golf?

Really?

We signed him up for a 4 day introductory course, and he loved it. We found some used clubs, because with kids you just never know how long the obsession will last... and if we had spent $150, he'd probably be done by now! :)

Since that class, he's practiced almost every day, and even went to the driving range with his grandpa twice. He's now in a more advanced golf camp - and he's loving it! Even though my husband and I know nothing about golf and have never played, it is good to see our son enjoying something so much.

I guess it's even worth it to sit in the hot sun for an hour and a half at a picnic table... I even bought a big floppy straw hat to wear for shade -- I'm sure I look ridiculous!

Unfortunately, there is rain in the forecast for Friday. Friday is the day they are supposed to play the 4 hole academy course. I hope the forecast is wrong, because he is so excited...

Here's my little golfer at the first camp..

Much has been going on here..

Right now I am getting ready for Maker Faire KC at Union Station in two weeks.. I can't wait! It should be lots of fun! Stop by and see me if you're in the area - it's June 23rd and 24th.

It's been almost a year since we moved, and I'm still not unpacked. I miss California very much - it's so different here. Or maybe I'm different - I did live here for a while back in the 90's, and it didn't seem so bad then.

My husband is doing better, but still has some issues. Hopefully they will work out eventually. Aortic dissection and open heart surgery are a lot for a body to recover from.

My son is doing well. He's decided to take up golf, so he starts round 2 of golf camp next week. He gets to go to a brand new school this fall - I mean really brand new... they are finishing it up, and we get to have a sneak peek in a few weeks. He's very excited, as it's a LEED certified school. He loves being green!

I've visited some of my friends in California already.. next week I'll post pictures.

I know I've made this promise before, but I will continue blogging on a regular basis. I plan on adding time to my daily schedule for it.. :)RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867364857040507042.post-81009176406242478622011-11-16T13:04:00.000-08:002012-06-08T12:31:35.615-07:00Life in Kansas CityIt's been almost 3 months now since my husband had his aortic dissection. He's doing very well, and has just gone back to work full time. I do think we still have a long road ahead with recovery, but hopefully everything will be grand by next summer.

I also want to send our heartfelt thanks to Regretsy, April and all the CF4L members who have been so awesome to us through this difficult time. YOU ROCK!

I'm currently planning a trip to California. Actually, planning 2 trips, one by myself and one with the family. My son really misses his friends and can't wait til summer to visit them. Until then he gets to experience a whole different life than we had in California. He met Father Christmas over the weekend...

It got worse.

Much worse.

On August 21st, my husband and son went to a cub scout info meeting. On the way home, my husband began to experience possible heart attack symptoms. I rushed him to the hospital, where they determined it wasn't a heart attack.

Instead it was something uncommon - a dissected aorta. He had to have immediate surgery, as a dissected aorta can be fatal - in fact it is most of the time. He was very lucky.

He is currently recovering at the hospital. He's had a couple of setbacks this week, but continues to work towards the goal of coming home and getting back to work.

Since he just started work, he has no vacation or sick pay built up, and we have no income for a while. I had planned to reopen my shop when I had time to retake my photos, change up descriptions and play with SEO stuff. I've decided now is a good time, in case I can make gas or grocery money from my shop. Please share this post with others to help me provide for my son during this very stressful time.

And remember to give extra hugs to your loved ones - you never know what's going to happen.

p.s. I apologize if I don't make much sense - I'm in a state of perpetual exhaustion right now. Big change for us, since we've been in the Los Angeles area for 11 years now. My son was born here and other than visiting family back there, he has no idea what it will be like. I think he's stressing a bit (not unlike his parents) and I hope I can get him through the last month of school with some sense of normality. Of course, how normal is it to have boxes stacked all over the apartment... ;)

My shop will be deactivated June 1st, so until then I am offering all inventory at half off! Just use coupon code MOVING when you check out. My shop will reopen probably in August, after we get settled. Colin will be starting school mid-August, so I'll have lots of time to create new items! I have lots of ideas.. can't wait to share them with you!RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867364857040507042.post-89986231474806994102010-12-15T15:19:00.000-08:002010-12-15T15:30:59.743-08:00Happy Birthday To Me!It's been a crazy day! A crazy week, actually! My son's first grade class is doing the Nutcracker (the play, not the ballet) on Friday. Today was dress rehearsal, and they did very well! I need to finish up some hats for the costumes, but it's all coming together...

And as promised, I went to random.org to pick a giveaway winner. I had 14 entries between comments here, on my Facebook fan page and Twitter. The website randomly picked #7, which is Ann! Check out her shops on Etsy... she's very talented! I linked to only one of her shops, but she has 3 others, and they can be found by clicking "read more" on her shop announcement. Congrats, Ann!

Ok, that's it for now. I have a new year's resolution already, and that is to blog at least twice a week. One post will be about what I'm up to in my shops and life in general, and the other post will be featuring some other lovely Etsians. If I don't get back here before the new year, have a Happy Christmas and a terrific new year!RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867364857040507042.post-8062934635640997772010-12-10T20:19:00.000-08:002010-12-11T06:18:05.629-08:00It's the busiest time of the year...I don't know about you, but I have so busy lately! Making gifts, trips to the post office, baking, and making costumes and sets for my son's 1st grade play has kept me out of trouble! Downside is there has not been much "me" time...

That changes Wednesday when my birthday rolls around again. The best gift I can give myself this year is a day of down time. :)

You are invited to celebrate my birthday with me by entering to win my giveaway:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 398px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TQMDO0hjF-I/AAAAAAAABEk/hHnQdCoC10k/s400/teals3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5549282719002990562" />

This is a stretchy bracelet, in the European 4 in 1 chainmaille weave. My husband commented it looked like brains. I got to thinking that if you substitute spaghetti for the ziti, that it would be an awesome zombie meal of bloody brains and veins...

Here's the recipe:

8 - 10 oz spaghetti
1 head cauliflower, cut up
1 T olive oil
1/4 t salt
1/4 t pepper
2 T fresh shredded basil, or 2 t dried basil
1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes
1/4 c mozzarella

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

2. Cook the spaghetti in a large saucepan according to the package directions. After draining, return spaghetti to the saucepan.

3. Meanwhile, toss the cauliflower, oil, salt and pepper together on a rimmed baking sheet. Roast, stirring once, until golden brown and tender, about 20 minutes. Stir basil and tomatoes into cauliflower and bake 10 minutes longer.

4. Add the cauliflower mixture to the spaghetti and stir well. Put the mixture in a casserole or baking dish. Top with mozzarella. Bake until cheese browns and bubbles, about 5 minutes.

This recipe originally came from the Cook Yourself Thin website, and makes 4 servings at 310 calories each. And it's vegetarian!

Tips: Feel free to play around with seasonings - make it to your taste! Add garlic to keep away the vampires.. ;)RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867364857040507042.post-24952710345225165692010-09-15T09:42:00.000-07:002010-09-15T09:52:42.745-07:00Off to a rough start..School started a week ago...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 333px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TJD5hcBsrvI/AAAAAAAABEU/QUNJfOy53yY/s400/IMG_1069.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5517183896383172338" />

My son didn't get the teacher that I thought would be the best fit for him. We tried to switch, but the principal gave us an option that was unacceptable. For now we're going to see how it goes, and document anything unusual. I'm volunteering in class this afternoon, so I can see the dynamics of the class first hand. I'm hoping all will be well, and we won't have to go to the district or transfer schools - unless, of course, hubby gets a new job elsewhere. But that's another story...

I have been taking advantage of longer school hours to create new jewelry. Money has been tight for new supply purchases, so I've been seeing what I have and going from there. So far I've made these necklaces out of vintage belt buckles, and the earrings are from my mom's button stash.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TJD5J9XzH1I/AAAAAAAABEE/yL0nVL1KAxE/s400/100_8078.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5517183493017378642" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 185px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TJD5TkOQhfI/AAAAAAAABEM/qYzEUx_vldE/s400/100_8090.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5517183658065167858" />RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867364857040507042.post-87636645748219959842010-09-01T10:01:00.000-07:002010-09-01T10:36:35.207-07:00I got to go to the "World of Color" Meet-Up!!!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 222px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TH6PFOXZYSI/AAAAAAAABD0/X3O4IOjkh04/s400/IMG_0926.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5512000313866412322" />

A couple of weeks ago, Disney announced they were doing a meet-up at California Adventure, open to the first 300 people who RSVP'd via e-mail.. I thought I'd try, but never thought I'd get in... but I did - as well as my son, who was my guest.

So last Thursday we got to Disneyland a little early. We met up with some friends at Disneyland and tried to keep cool while going on a few rides. Before we knew it, it was time to head over to the check in table. At check in they gave us wristbands and a packet that contained a photo of "World of Color" and a list of who we would be seeing - Sayre Wiseman, Steve Davison and Mary Niven - who were all involved in the creation of this fabulous show.

We had a bit of time, so after we grabbed a bite to eat, Colin (my train obsessed boy) wanted to see the new trolley tracks. It was a shock to me to find out that this is Rosenblatt's last season - they are tearing it down to make a bigger parking lot for the zoo.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TGrKNFHj8cI/AAAAAAAABCk/JnoBKrRJ5ro/s400/IMG_0453.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5506435820474855874" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TGrKM-IEnjI/AAAAAAAABCc/rVwP9MeB0ps/s400/IMG_0454.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5506435818597948978" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TGrKMoLKM_I/AAAAAAAABCU/T04JzRtsC_M/s400/IMG_0456.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5506435812705317874" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 309px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TGrKMRKoa5I/AAAAAAAABCM/6ynLcG4FIy4/s400/IMG_0460.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5506435806529088402" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TGrKLw_87jI/AAAAAAAABCE/IkHlPgTP2S0/s400/IMG_0463.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5506435797894360626" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 289px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TGrKd0TZB8I/AAAAAAAABCs/tvkZ8sXzAhI/s400/IMG_0467.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5506436108018845634" />

The Royals lost, btw...

The next day we headed back to the Kansas City area. It's very inspiring because A. cash is low for new clothes and B. I hate the styles/colors/fabrics at the stores right now.

I decided to try my own makeover of a thrift store dress. Saturday the local thrift had a 40% off sale, so I got this for $4.60.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 194px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TFnEZlWde2I/AAAAAAAABBE/6DmM8Q7uetE/s400/IMG_0656.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501644363611863906" />

Awful, isn't it? Not flattering in the least... Even the camera was disgusted - it didn't even take a good picture!! ;)

So, after thinking about what I wanted to do with it, I decided to turn it into a tunic. I cut off some length, and those awful sleeves. After hemming, here's what it looks like now:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 286px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TFnE8P0XrvI/AAAAAAAABBM/ZQtVzDEKuM8/s400/IMG_0659.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5501644959127154418" />

Much better! I love the flutter sleeves! It gives me a whole new silhouette! (of course, it would help if it wasn't laundry day, and I have on some pants that are too baggy..)

I can't wait to hit the thrift stores again... Unfortunately, the local ones here are all so pricey.. I see a trip to Ventura in my future... :)

P.S. I haven't forgotten about finishing up our vacation... I have just a couple of days to go....RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867364857040507042.post-80915550761805248592010-07-23T16:00:00.000-07:002010-07-23T16:18:50.067-07:00Go Big Red!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEohMc0_I_I/AAAAAAAAA_k/-W85l-qsrWM/s400/100_7446.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497242792939693042" />

One afternoon we decided to go to Elephant Hall at the University of Nebraska. It's officially called Morrill Hall, but it's always been known as Elephant Hall.. It was always a favorite spot of mine when I was a child - and I love the fact my son loves it now too! It's very similar to the Natural History Museum here in LA. It's not really big, but at least you can see everything with a 6 year old in one day without any complaints of being tired.. ;)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEohTC8BKTI/AAAAAAAAA_s/nnBFNNmKlHg/s400/IMG_0335.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497242906248948018" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEohe01NkaI/AAAAAAAAA_0/JOjvH-QwxlU/s400/IMG_0336.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497243108620734882" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEohmWsw9BI/AAAAAAAAA_8/e7-bCxfkJ_I/s400/IMG_0337.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497243237971194898" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 182px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEohsMS62HI/AAAAAAAABAE/9qOcsg0Hytg/s400/IMG_0342.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497243338257651826" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEohy7946WI/AAAAAAAABAM/I3osu1sNkbs/s400/IMG_0343.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497243454133561698" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEoh6j2MubI/AAAAAAAABAU/QAuEHfUwYNc/s400/IMG_0346.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497243585097808306" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEoiBGuaoQI/AAAAAAAABAc/4q-aleoqyuM/s400/IMG_0347.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5497243697539621122" />

After the museum, we took a little walk down the street to Memorial Stadium, home of the Nebraska Cornhuskers! We had two options - emergency room or finding a local provider our insurance would cover. We were staying in Leavenworth, Kansas. The nearest urgent care our insurance would cover was in Shawnee, Kansas. So we packed up the boy and went to the doctor. He was diagnosed with pneumonia - a very mild case, luckily. My husband had it before vacation, so I'm guessing that's how Colin got it, even though we tried to do everything we could to avoid contamination. He got some antibiotics, and the doctor said they would knock it out in two days.

The next day he was better - hardly coughing at all. So we tried to salvage a little bit of fun and went to Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. He had a lot of fun there...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 373px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEcozH7ovmI/AAAAAAAAA9s/wFjqjBdaXSM/s400/IMG_0176.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496406728996601442" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEco73HvtYI/AAAAAAAAA90/VVQIwdmAhW4/s400/IMG_0185.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496406879102809474" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEcpDbkMp6I/AAAAAAAAA98/qQuLbb3Us9s/s400/IMG_0203.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496407009144907682" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 296px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEcpLT2ulPI/AAAAAAAAA-E/HrPvsfbHxYg/s400/IMG_0213.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496407144514098418" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 286px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEcpTBAos6I/AAAAAAAAA-M/_N2omstkDZc/s400/IMG_0217.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496407276894335906" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEcpbvOjNLI/AAAAAAAAA-U/ft9EItV_WAk/s400/IMG_0219.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496407426739680434" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEcpiyxNbWI/AAAAAAAAA-c/885w7s0I4XM/s400/IMG_0230.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496407547949444450" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEcprMYdg0I/AAAAAAAAA-k/1Yi7qqAsNvc/s400/IMG_0237.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496407692263916354" />

Chris, on the other hand, maybe didn't have so much fun...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 309px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TEcp1cghMRI/AAAAAAAAA-s/w8wHaZjKh3w/s400/IMG_0252.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5496407868391371026" />

Colin was doing very well, until we took a hayrack ride that stirred up dust and his coughing. On the way back to Leavenworth, he started vomiting. It was not a good way to end the day for us, as we had to clean out the back of the van. Colin, on the other hand, felt completely fine and spent a few hours playing in the bath.

The next day we headed up to Lincoln, Nebraska to see my parents. Colin proceeded to vomit once or twice a day for the next 4 or 5 days. We ended up going to a different urgent care in Lincoln on the 4th of July, where we got another antibiotic that really did work well and right away, thank goodness. In the meantime, his Kansas grandparents came up to Lincoln, as did his great-aunt so we could have a nice 4th. We bought lots of fireworks, and had a fun shooting them off. Colin watched out the window, as it was too smoky for him to be outside. We kept things low key for a couple more days, with only family visits. Once he got over the vomiting and the coughing stopped, we crammed in a lot of activities in just a few days...

Next up, a trip to the University of Nebraska....

If you want to see more pictures, please visit Flickr.RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8867364857040507042.post-11550466850462184812010-07-19T14:08:00.001-07:002010-07-19T14:11:04.758-07:00Etsy-versary Giveaway Winner!I went to random.org to pick the winner... and the number was 3, so Andie is the winner! Marceline is where Walt Disney lived as a child. He never forgot his time there, and it became a huge influence in his films and Disneyland.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD8hTURW-OI/AAAAAAAAA7E/VGhvUoEWUb8/s400/100_7441.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494146686158043362" />

We first visited the Walt Disney Hometown Museum. It resides in a renovated Santa Fe train depot. The trains still whiz past the depot, but none stop there anymore. I loved how the tour guides would patiently pause during the train whistles!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD8j-8uHIcI/AAAAAAAAA7U/XbvqgNX2580/s400/IMG_0104.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494149634773688770" />

Pictures are not allowed inside the museum, but if you scroll all the way to the bottom of this site, under Missouriland, you can see a couple of pictures. The museum has lots of photos and letters, and an original midget autopia car. We had a wonderful tour guide - unfortunately I can't remember her name! During one of Walt's visits back to Marceline, he stayed at her house because the town hotel was not the best and they had the only air conditioning in town. It was really amazing to meet someone who had known Walt!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 376px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD8juJ5deAI/AAAAAAAAA7M/4GzLETs3rkI/s400/100_7442.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494149346253174786" />

Our next stop was Walt Disney Elementary School. It was being worked on, but we still managed to peek inside the door to see some original artwork by Disney legend Bob Moore.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD8lBaD-ocI/AAAAAAAAA7c/5rl36-fycmI/s400/IMG_0102.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494150776521400770" />

From there we decided to stroll down Main Street. We first stopped at a wonderful ice cream shop, Sweet Tunes. I had a scoop of chocolate marshmallow, and since Chris can't have dairy, he had root beer. Refreshed, we started our walk...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 333px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD80immlkfI/AAAAAAAAA7k/dngdEKR8Wzo/s400/IMG_0126.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494167839497884146" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 226px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD80xgkksxI/AAAAAAAAA7s/0QjKHdTQu3s/s400/IMG_0127.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494168095576863506" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 353px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD81Hh4SbmI/AAAAAAAAA70/hn8VOqnWwAI/s400/IMG_0117.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494168473885109858" />

Ever visit "Coke Corner" at Disneyland? It was home to Midget Autopia. If you're curious about the Disneyland ride, please visit Yesterland.. it has loads of info, including the fact that Walt and Roy donated this ride to Marceline when it closed at Disneyland. All that's left of it now is the neglected track at the park and a single car at the Hometown Museum. Chris walked the entire track...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD83EE7fMEI/AAAAAAAAA8U/zlN8y335U8I/s400/IMG_0106.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494170613597548610" />

From there we headed to Walt's dreaming tree and barn, and the house he lived in.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 277px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD83tlyKO3I/AAAAAAAAA8c/iBllP7bf3OY/s400/IMG_0151.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494171326791433074" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD833i2feLI/AAAAAAAAA8k/GDhvXgIl7hE/s400/IMG_0128.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494171497802987698" />

I'll start with the dreaming tree... Next time he'll come with us and we'll all get to sign. :) Here's some lovely views from the barn..

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD-BExO2x9I/AAAAAAAAA9c/IPcFXmNaFDY/s400/IMG_0148.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494251989350402002" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD-BEJG42LI/AAAAAAAAA9U/AQGjjKm4O8k/s400/IMG_0147.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494251978579564722" />

On our way back to Leavenworth, we saw a sign for a covered bridge. We decided to check it out since it wasn't far off the highway. But... it did involve a few turns, a few gravel roads, and a hike through an area that had flooded not long before we got there. The bridge was pretty cool, but it was in the middle of nowhere and sits over nothing since the creek moved decades ago.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD-B12_1EgI/AAAAAAAAA9k/RPfUiR81wPI/s400/IMG_0157.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5494252832711578114" />

And that was the end of our fun for a bit. We got back to find out our son had a fever of 102 and had not really been well all day. I felt like the worse mom ever - leaving to gallivanting around the countryside when I should have been with him. But other than a cough that we thought was allergies, he showed no indication of being ill. It's a halfway point for us to meet up with relatives that we probably wouldn't have seen otherwise. It was a fun afternoon, even though Colin was coughing periodically through the day. We attributed it to allergies.... but more on that later.

Emporia has a small zoo - the David Traylor Zoo. It was nice walking around, and fairly shady, which was good since it was a very hot day.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 291px; height: 400px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD3eEr1G6KI/AAAAAAAAA6E/BKfw5kGaGyY/s400/IMG_0068.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493791292528191650" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 377px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD3eD3Q_6GI/AAAAAAAAA50/L89fkPAKCi4/s400/IMG_0056.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493791278418094178" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 156px; height: 400px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TD3eDYD08lI/AAAAAAAAA5s/DF7IxnlEnwk/s400/IMG_0042.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493791270041350738" />

After the zoo, we went to Peter Pan Park. Sometimes that is more valuable than having lots of sales - not that I wouldn't mind my sales going up just a bit... ;)

I am giving away this necklace:
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 368px; height: 400px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oKqF93lOrqM/TDxpafAS8aI/AAAAAAAAA5M/HM_qDC1WpCg/s400/blues.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5493381549205418402" />
It has a lovely summery feel to it, with shades of blue and turquoise. You can find out more info here. To enter, just pop over to my shop and pick your favorite item. Come back here and leave a comment, with a way I can reach you if you are the winner. Winners will be chosen Monday, July 19th. For additional entries, you can tweet about this giveaway on Twitter or like me on Facebook. Good Luck!

I've also just come back from our vacation. Every year we take our son back to Nebraska and Kansas to see his grandparents. I'll be sharing the trip with you little by little over the next week or so. This trip wasn't the ideal trip, but we did manage to have a little fun. I guess we should have known it wasn't going to be a wonderful vacation when we had to take a commuter plane from Denver to Kansas City... We've had a few time outs today, 3 injuries, lots of tears, a marked increase in whining and the noise level is deafening...

and the wii has been banned since lunchtime...

But we did get the kids to help clean up, so the house looks fairly presentable. They also assisted in decorating the cake and making a sign for their parents - who should be here in about 45 minutes...

Colin will miss all the room here as we head back to our cramped apartment, but he is losing his patience and wants some quiet time. Friday one of the teachers at school asked him how he liked having brothers and sister - he said "uh huh". We asked him that again yesterday - got the same response... ;)RedBessBonneyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09666675593269551688noreply@blogger.com1
